Little Simz Returns With New Single “Young”

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Little Simz channels her inner M.I.A. in this track.

If you’re a casual hip-hop fan, you may not yet understand how incredible Little Simz truly is. Widely considered one of the best rappers in the game today, the UK artist continues to make waves in her own lane, far from radio trends or chart-chasing strategies.

Now, Little Simz is preparing for her next chapter with the release of a brand new album titled Lotus. The newest taste of that project is the just-released single, “Young.”

“Young” is easily one of the most unconventional rap tracks of the year. From a production standpoint, it blends vintage instrumentation with a playful and quirky tone that challenges traditional hip-hop norms. Simz floats over the track with a light, elementary-flow cadence, discussing themes of carefree living and dodging the demons that often plague people in her position. Despite the song’s eccentric structure, it’s both engaging and sonically refreshing.

The chorus, in particular, stands out as a fun and melodic centerpiece that ties the whole song together. It’s not just different—it’s daring, and it’s another strong testament to Little Simz’s creative bravery and lyrical skill.

As Lotus approaches, “Young” signals that Simz is once again pushing boundaries and delivering the kind of innovative music that true hip-hop heads appreciate.
