This is one of the healthiest beefs I’ve ever seen.
On one random night, Joey Bada$$ woke up and chose violence—aiming lyrical shots at Kendrick Lamar and the West Coast rap scene. The bold move prompted responses from California heavyweights like Daylyt and Ray Vaughn. While the beef simmered for a few months, it reignited in explosive fashion after Joey, Big Sean, and Ab-Soul dropped a freestyle session in which Joey continued to diss Ray Vaughn and TDE—right in front of Ab-Soul.
Today, Ray Vaughn returned fire with “Hoe Era,” and it’s one of the most cutting diss tracks of the year.
Powered by an unmistakable West Coast beat, “Hoe Era” sounds like something you’d hear blasting from a lowrider at a Compton block party. But don’t let the bouncy instrumental fool you—Ray’s lyrics are savage. With a dark, aggressive tone, he targets Joey’s lack of plaques, mocks his acting career, questions why he randomly attacked Kendrick, and accuses him of being jealous of TDE.
The punchlines are razor-sharp, the flow is relentless, and the bars are packed with well-researched shots that prove Ray Vaughn did his homework. Overall, “Hoe Era” is more than a diss track—it’s a lyrical beatdown that demands attention.
Respectfully, this beef would be on NBA TV if Kendrick Lamar and Drake’s beef was still going on. Real ones watch NBA TV playoff games, though.
